Is there a medicine for fatty liver?

In short

Yes, for some people. Two medicines are now approved in several countries for MASH with moderate or advanced scarring. They work alongside lifestyle change, not instead of it.

One is a daily tablet that helps the liver burn fat. The other is a weekly injection from the GLP-1 family that also lowers weight.

They are for adults with MASH and stage F2–F3 fibrosis, without cirrhosis. People with only simple fatty liver usually do not need them.

Medicines for diabetes and weight, such as GLP-1 injections, can also help the liver. Your doctor will decide what fits you, and what is available in your country.
