Medical disclaimer
Everything on this site is for general education only. It is not medical advice, and it is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. It does not create a doctor–patient relationship.
Pages for doctors summarise published guidelines. They do not replace clinical judgement, the full guidelines, or the approved drug label in your country.
Do not stop, start or change any medicine because of this site. In an emergency, call your local emergency number or go to the nearest emergency department.
We work to keep the content accurate and current, but we cannot guarantee it. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Metabolic Liver Academy and its contributors are not liable for loss or harm arising from reliance on this site.
Our tools
| Tool | For | What it does, and its limits |
|---|---|---|
| Risk checklist | Public | Counts common risk factors and suggests talking to a doctor. It does not estimate fibrosis and gives no diagnosis. |
| FIB-4 calculator | Healthcare professionals | Estimates the chance of advanced fibrosis in adults with MASLD. Not valid under 35, in children, in pregnancy or in acute liver injury. Full method and limits. |
Both tools can give a wrong result for some people. A patient version of FIB-4 will only be added after a separate legal and regulatory review.
Privacy
The Academy collects no personal data unless you choose to join our mailing list. We have no accounts, no cookies, no advertising and no tracking. We only count visits, anonymously and without cookies. Here is exactly what happens when you visit:
| What | Who receives it | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Loading any page | GitHub (Pages) | Our host. Like any web server, it receives your IP address and browser details, and may keep them in logs for security. We cannot see these logs. GitHub privacy statement. |
| Fonts, images, scripts | Nobody else | All served from our own site. We do not load Google Fonts, YouTube embeds or any other outside service on page load, except the visit counter below. |
| Counting visits | GoatCounter | A small open-source counter records which page was opened, the site you came from, your browser type, your screen size and your country. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address and does not follow you across websites. The numbers are private: only the Academy can see them. GoatCounter privacy policy. |
| Using a tool | Nobody | Calculations run in your browser. What you type is not stored and not sent anywhere. It disappears when you leave the page. |
| Clicking a video or outside link | That website | Videos load from YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com) only when you press play, or open on YouTube when you click. From then on, YouTube's own privacy policy applies. |
| Joining the mailing list | beehiiv | Only if you sign up: your email address (and name, if you give it) is stored by beehiiv, our newsletter service. You confirm by email first. We use it only to send Academy news, never share or sell it, show no advertising, and every email has an unsubscribe link. beehiiv privacy policy. |
| Emailing us | The founder | Used only to reply. Do not send personal medical details; we cannot give individual advice by email. |
Because the counter uses no cookies, the site does not need a cookie banner. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal, the visit is not counted.
Clinical governance: how content is made and checked
Who is responsible
- Dr. Mahmoud Al-Desoky, Founder and Director, is the editor and is responsible for the clinical accuracy of all content.
- Invited reviewers will be specialists in the topic, chosen for expertise, with no relevant conflict of interest. Each will be named on the pages they review, with their disclosures.
How content is written
- Based on current international guidelines (EASL, AASLD, AGA, AACE and others), the Saudi consensus, and peer-reviewed evidence. Every reference is checked against PubMed or the publisher.
- When guidelines disagree, we say so and show each position. We do not write new recommendations.
- Digital tools, including AI writing assistants, may help draft and check text. A doctor checks every clinical statement before it is marked as reviewed.
- News is written in our own words with a link to the original. We do not copy articles.
Page records and versions
- Each clinical page has a page record: author, version, last update, next review date and, once a page has been peer reviewed, the review date.
- Every clinical statement is linked to a documented, published reference listed on the same page.
- Pages are reviewed at least every 12 months, and sooner when a major guideline or drug approval changes.
- Every change is kept in a public change history, so anyone can see what changed and when.
Corrections
Found an error? Email mdesoky15@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 7 days and to fix confirmed clinical errors as a priority. Significant corrections are noted in the page's change history.
Conflicts of interest and sponsorship
- The Academy currently has no sponsors and receives no funding.
- Everyone who writes or reviews content (the founder included) discloses relevant financial relationships from the past 24 months: grants, speaker fees, advisory or consulting roles, trial roles, and shares. Disclosures are updated every 12 months and are published on the About page and beside reviewer names.
- A person with a relevant conflict does not review content about that company's products.
- If we accept support in future, each sponsor will be named on what it supports, and the support will be unrestricted. Sponsors never write, review, approve or see content before publication.
- Patient pages describe medicines by type, not brand, and never promote a product.
Terms of use
- You may read, print and share pages for personal and non-commercial educational use, with credit to the Metabolic Liver Academy and a link to the page. Commercial use needs written permission.
- Links to other websites are for convenience. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.
- Copyright concerns: if you believe something here uses your work without permission, email mdesoky15@gmail.com with the page link and details. We will review it promptly and remove the material while we check, where appropriate.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law of your own country that cannot be limited.
- We may update these policies. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version, and older versions stay in the public change history.
